Happy Ruby Tuesday guys and girls! Here are a couple of RED things I found in my archives. I'd better get out and start photographing some new RED things. If only the SNOW would go away...
The RED bus of Roosevelt Island, an island in the center of the East River off Manhattan, N.Y.
The Red here is the Red of the martyr on a white linen field - (as in linen shroud of Christ,) - it is known as the Cross of St George who was associated with England due to the values of courage and selflessness that he portrays.
And you might ask why is the flag of England flying in front of the Zion Episcopal Church in Little Neck N.Y. ?
Shall I put it out there as a question for you to guess the answer? Yes I think I will. I'll tell you the answer tomorrow in the afternoon. (Hint: you can find out the answer by googling) Another hint: Distinguish from the National Flag of Great Britain.

Flag/Cross of St. George, his day I think is April 23, from memory. In front of the Episcopal Church because the spiritual seat is either Canterbury or Westminster?
(it's just a guess)
That red bus has loads of character! Very eye-catching! And the flag slightly furled in the breeze looks wonderful.
Hi Mary, I like your red bus (I've had them for RT too). It would look real pretty in some snow.
Our snow didn't last until morning of the night it fell. Are you ready to move?
Happy RT! You are a dear for keeping up with this nice meme.
Thank you.
..
Nobody's going to miss seeing that bus coming. :)
Wonderful rubies!
I know what you mean about the snow. We are having 40 degree weather today and a touch of sun. First day I've been out in awhile and I did find something for Yard Art. ;)
Now that's red!
Love your new header photo Mary, so very green. Jay and I are heading to Dublin for a few days over Passover (Easter weekend) - I can't wait!
i can't believe you've still got snow. it makes the [colour] red stand out even more prominently.
btw isn't that the Red Cross [society] flag?
I love the bus. I wonder why. Mary I just want to thank you again for all your comments and words of encouragement you sent to me on my blog during the Tsunami Saturday. It filled my heart with warmth and goodness and I truly am honored and humbled to have you as a friend. Mahalo Nui Loa Rabbit Rabbit
mind is up..happy RT day!cool bus!
have a great start of the month!
I guess I need to google this but that red colored bus is very interesting! i seldom see it.
eyecatching bus! I miss traveling right now. Hmm..it could be that the seat of the congregation is in England?
Happy RT! Mine is here.
I love that bus! Great shot, great memories!

The red bus will be seen miles ahead.
Reminds me of the London buses, except for the size.
The English flag in front of an English originated church is only natural.
If you should happen to stumble over the Norwegian Seamen's church in NY, you'll be sure to find a Norwegian flag.

The red is just what we need right now. I'm tired of drab and grey and white! And snow. And shoveling.
I love your new header.
I'm posted.
I adore your new header! The contrasts in the sky reminds me of a fairy-tale I used to love as a kid.
The red piccies are lovely too, as usual. :)
That bus is certainly red! One couldn't miss it.
The Episcopal Church started in England, so the flag would be English..is this a trick question?
Happy RT Mary. Thanks as always for hosting.
beautiful reds! good thing we have archives eh?
you captured these both beautifully Mary, I really like the flag shot composition
Beautiful post! Lovely tribute to St George!
Happy RT!

Wow I like that bus it is a real eye snatcher:)
Red always brightens up the day doesn't it? Like the way the flag is just furled in the breeze. I think we are all readu for spring.
I'm running out of reds and need to go out for my photo hunt. It's not snow that's stopping me, I'm confined to a wheel-chair due to my surgery.
You're blog looks so sunny today! Love the shot of the red bus. You don't see too many of those around here.
Kewl RUBY bus ... Long Beach (not far from here) has red ones too but the Orange County Transit buses are much more traditionally colored. Mine's up ;-)
Hugs and blessings,
Wonderful post. Red bus is really nice.

Mary, thank you so much for hosting this fun party!
Reds are so welcome after seeing nothing but white and grey all week.
I hope to see some green someday soon as well.
I used to have a red bus in my Matchbox cars. It was one of my favorites.
Red- The color of instant attraction! :)
dear mary t..i just love the picture you have of the red bus!
it is nice to go into your archives once in a while.
i have been complaining on my blog about the snow that we have been getting in southern ontario, but i should be really ashamed of myself considering the bad weather YOU have been getting in new york!
the photo of the white church with the red cross flag is really nice too.
it is really neat the way the flag has created its own shadow!
happy ruby tuesday beloved teach...love terry
Little Neck has some very interesting buildings. But myRuby Tuesday is far from there.
I trust that you're keeping warm and dry. What a great Ruby Tuesday collection you have in your archives.

Mary, that bus is serious red. And doesn't the sunny weather look good, too!
Love red buses ! I think that comes from my staying in London so many times !
That bus is SO red - it looks brand new! Or maybe just well scrubbed :)
Nice reds. I have no clue about the flag. That bus is veyr eye-catching.
The flag looks like the Danish flag. Cool:)
Happy RT!
Love your Ruby Red snaps! The first brings back memories. When my folks moved back to NYC from Dallas, they lived on Roosevelt Island for 4 years. That tram is something else!
Good morning all! I love EVERYTHING NYC! Thanks for sharing this red shots...

That's the flag of St. George but St George's Day isn't until April so I don't know why the flag is being flown now.
Beautiful red bus!
Short of time this week, so I will have to show more jewellery next week.
Here is my post:

I always love the red in your posts. Your posts make Roosevelt Island seem like such a nice little town...even if it isn't so little. Through your posts I can imagine meeting up with my postman, my grocer...It brings me back to a more simple time.
I left the wrong permalink first. Could you please remove the one that leads us to the wrong post?
The correct one should be:

Thank you.

Signature # 83 is wrong, signature # 85 has the correct permalink.
Sorry to cause you so much trouble.
Best wishes,
Anna
The red bus is great! I'm not sure I've seen one like this before! Happy Ruby Tuesday!
I have NO idea about the flag but I love the pictures Mary :) Happy Ruby Tuesday!
Happy Ruby Tuesday, Mary.
My Ruby Link for you
Good morning , I love the red bus..Mary..thanks for being our host for ruby Tuesday...have a fun day.
Hugs, Baba
Both photos are beautiful, Mary and I read some very interesting history on the Episcopal Church, but I'm not so sure about the flag's signifigance. Can't wait to hear what you say.
Have a wonderful day!
The second shot is lovely!
Love that red bus.
St George's flag is to represent England - the Episcopalian church is the Anglican (Church of England) in the US.
I'm not sure if you realize that I post my RT posts on my Happy At Home blog each week since you always visit my Crazy Life blog lol anyway, it's HERE
Nice captures, Mary! I love the red bus...so filled with color and textures.
Hi Mary - that certainly is one RED bus! I haven't seen a bus this red this side of London!
I gave a mention of Ruby Tuesday on Purrchance To Dream but if you wanna see some RED, check out my new BellisiMo Chimes site!
Cheers,
Mo
better late than never...love the red buses....always so attractive!
Beautiful shots, Mary, even though I haven't a clue about the flag.
Sorry to be so late (#115) but it's been a long day and I'm just getting home. :)
Hi Mary! Great photos! That bus has such a striking red :)
aww that red bus looks really cute :) almost like a toy :)
There is quite a history of that flag, including losing its political significance for some.
LOL... I resorted to photographing my red shoes today... I forgot it was Tuesday until just now, and had photographed them for my picture of the day. It was a drab, blah kind of day again!
Hello everyone in here, have a great ruby day! Here's My Ruby Tuesday
Have a happy ruby hunting.. :-)
About the flag of St George, the red cross against a white field. This became the flag of England during the middle ages due to St George being the patron saint of England. Later it became the central cross of the Union Jack when first the cross of St Andrew for Scotland and the cross of St Patrick for Ireland were merged to become the flag for the United Kingdom. Still today the red cross on white is used as a flag of England.
At the protestant reformation the cross of St George was associated with the Church of England either as a four square flag or as a white shield with a red cross dividing in in quarters. When the emblem of a diocese was imposed on the upper left quadrant it became the flag of that diocese.
When English settlers came to America and formed Amglican parishes the same church was use to represent the Church of England in America. As the colonies became involved with the struggle for independence from England the English flag ceased to be appropriate. At the time of the revolutionary war a group of nine American diocese met in Philadelphia and founded the Protestant Episcopal church in America and developed their own flag, a red cross on a white field with nine small crosses for those original nine diocese are laid in an X on the upper left field. This continues to be the flag of the Episcopal church in the United States. Often this is seen as a shield rather than an rectangular flag.
I think that is the significance of St George's cross outside the chyrch in Mary;s photo.
