Monday Wash, 1900
Italian Bread Peddler, 1902
Vintage photochromes from the American Photochrome Archive have rarely been available since the early 1900's. Many original photochromes, as well as stunning contemporary pigment prints, are now offered exclusively through The Times.
The American Photochrome Archive is the world's largest collection of vintage photochromes. The first widely available form of color photography, photochromes were created mainly between 1898 to 1900, a majority by noted photographer William Henry Jackson.

How cool Teach. You just don't see a clothes line anymore. We used one when I was a kid, but eventually the dryer made it's appearance and away the line went. Very cool shots here too. That was a very long time ago. I had no idea about these prints. I know that surprises you. Bwahahahah. Have a great WW and a very Happy New Year. :)
amazing!! I love the wash day photo!! And to think that we rely heavily on dyers today. Very thought provoking!!
There were lots of clothes lines in my mother-in-law's neighborhood and still are, believe it or not! But where I live people only use dryers. But there are still some old neighborhoods in NYC where women hang out clothes - the fresh air and sunshine is better for the clothes dontcha know!
Now that's some laundry. Last thing you'd need would be a flock of Canada geese to come along for target practive. Amazing. Thanks for this view. God bless.
Great find, Mary. The first one made me think of that old kids' song: "This is the way we wash the clothes so early Monday morning..."
I love the wash day i also like to hang clothes myself:>
In my country it's common to have clothes line. We seldom use dryers. That's a cool photo!
I love looking at old shots like these...

Love the bread peddler piece...The colors and the action are just great!
Fascinating shots - I love old images. I dry my laundry outdoors in summer months, and it smells so fresh when I bring it indoors.
Happy New Year!
My WW pics are up at Siani's Pot-Pourri.
