A Trip to Sleepy Hollow

On Wednesday this week we went to Sleepy Hollow, New York. You've heard of this place before, I'm sure. It's located a little ways up into the state of New York where the leaves were almost at their peak. It's also the setting for Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

I took lots of pictures and I post them here today for you to enjoy.

Washington Irving's grave

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery

Old Dutch Church

Philipsburg Manor

This is a postcard of Ichabod Crane galloping away from the scary "Headless Horseman" which is a central scene in the Sleepy Hollow story.

If you would like to read "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" click the link above and Project Gutenberg has the complete tale for you!

Oh I am so so envious! I have always loved the story and just watched the movie with Johnny Depp. That is one place I would love to visit. Did you know that the graveyard in Concord, MA where Thoreau, Emerson, the Alcott family, Nathanial Hawthorne are buried is also called Sleepy Hollow.

You make me want to get there and visit. I have been by it so many times. Now I know what I'm missing.

Had definitely heard of Sleepy Hollow but: a) hadn't realized it was a real place/location; and b) that Washington Irvine's buried there! :O

Hi Mary! I popped by from your link over at Jamie's and talk about coincidental ... Amanda and I stopped by Sleepy Hollow on that very same Wednesday! We were on our way back from Pennsylvania and I wanted to stop by to get pictures of the stained glass in the chapel that I didn't get during our visit there in July. I did a series of two posts on it; post one is the link above and post two is this one should you like to check them out.

When we stopped by recently it was about 3:30 in the afternoon or so and - just like it was the first time we were there - it was overcast in the cemetery. Amanda wondered if it was always that way but said it seemed appropriate what with the name and all! It's most definitely very cool, though, isn't it? You captured it beautifully!

Hmm, not sure if that first link is working or not so I'll post it once more just in case it isn't ... it's this one - I hope!

Hi Mary. Good to see you again. My daughter lives very close to Sleepy Hollow but we always drive by and never stop. Will do so next year for sure.
