Another Ruby Tuesday!
Yesterday we visited Roosevelt Island for the first time in our lives and we've lived in New York City ALL our lives!
Roosevelt Island Trash Can
Roosevelt Island Bus
Roosevelt Island, formerly known as Welfare Island (from 1921 to 1973), and before that Blackwell's Island, is a narrow island in the East River of New York City. It lies between the island of Manhattan to its west and the borough of Queens to its east. Running from Manhattan's East 46th to East 85th streets, it is about two miles long, with a maximum width of 800 feet, and a total area of 147 acres. The island is part of the Borough of Manhattan and New York County. Together with Mill Rock Island, Roosevelt Island constitutes New York County's Census Tract 238, which has a land area of 0.279 sq mi. and had a population of 9,520 in 2000 according to the US Census.

We went to Roosevelt Island to see the Blackwell Island Light which sits at the Northernmost end of the island.

Wow - first! How exciting! I LOVE that trash can - I wish mine was that clean and sparkly :)
Very vibrant reds indeed. I've always thought that Roosevelt Island would be a great place to live.
Funny how you can live somewhere for a long, long time (you ARE at least 21, aren't you, Mary?) and not see all there is to see.
Impossible to miss that trash can...or the bus. ;-)
I love both the trash can and the bus. They are wonderful. Great pictures! Red is so vibrant and happy!
played some softball there back in the day...
I admire your vibrant and shining red colors in all your pictures, and the knife-sharp takings.
I guess I envy you, just a little.
Most I get inspired and intrigued by all the interesting details and the grader view in the pictures you share.
Have a great Ruby Tuesday.

I love that rubbish bin and the bus is awesome too. Have a great RT. Wonderful photos :)
what a bright color of trash can and bus, so red perfect for Ruby Tuesday..
Interesting post, Mary. I had heard of Roosevelt Island but knew nothing about it.
You certainly found some nice bright reds there!
Happy Ruby Tuesday.
Hi Mary,
The trash can and bus are vibrant reds!
I love the lighthouse! Looks like the makings of another postcard. :)
I'm glad to be back this week with grandbaby pics.
So sorry Mary. :(
I forgot to change my link. If you can please delete the wrong one.
Your red is certainly red! Wow! Fun post!
Much like the navigational aide under the GWB, I had not even considered a light in the East River! Roosevelt Island must be a treat, although I'd hate to stuck on the tram like a few years ago...a nice place, of the City but not necessarily in the city
By NYC standards, I guess that's downright sparse population density.
There are places I've never been in my hometown despite living here for most of the last ahemcoughflurtmyty years and it's nowhere close to the size of NYC. So don't feel too bad.
Pretty cool little sandbar you have there!
I love that trash can and the bus. Very bright color easy to find!
Very nicely done Mary. Happy RT.
Some interesting, bright reds on Roosevelt Island! A very artistically shaped trash can and for some reason, I always find red buses are quite magical!
What a nice light house, I will have to make a trip to see it next time I am in NYC. Happy Ruby Tuesday. thanks for the New Post card. I Love it!
Well, it looks like they love red on Roosevelt Island! Sounds like my kind of place!!
I've never seen such a cute red trash can!!
Look at all those beautiful reads. Nothing looks as good on my computer screen. I haven't joined your party yet ~ I don't think so make sure I did everything correctly and let me know if there is any problem.
Very nice rubies. I love the trash can!
I'm loving that red, Mary! Beautiful, clean, and lovely.
Red as red gets. Have a great week!
Interesting post. I know what it is to live close to something and not actually go to see it-we lived within a 2 hour drive of Yosemite National Park for my whole childhood but we never went there until I was a teenager.
I love the bus!
Kewl RUBY trash can and public transport too. I don't think I've been to this island on any of my visits to New York, but your last view is lovely ;--)
Hugs and blessings,
Marvelour reds Mary. Love them!

Oh red is such a fabulous color - whatever shade! It can be soothing, vibrant and romantic all at the same time.
Happy Twirls
hahahaha~ I'm laughing at what Toby had written :P
I once heard, in certain places in China. The cleanest place to look at is probably the trash can around city area!! *lol*
I like the trash can..so vibrant color! Roosevelt Island sounds like a nice place to visit. My RT is up now:)
Very auspicious colour! Happy RT. :D
It Meows #51
That is a nice red trash container.
Isn't interesting how when we are on vacation we go to all the sights, but negelect what is in our own backyard. At least I do. HRT
Oh, the bus is wonderful - but I LOOOOOOOOVE that trash bin! I don't know why... LOL! It's just a happy trash bin!
Wow there's some VERY vivid red on Roosevelt Island! I don't think I've ever been there, and I was born and raised in NYC...

Happy Gardening!
I tried something new - I posted early and scheduled it. Whenever blogger posts it, I'm there with my museum reds.
Love the bright red trash can....can't miss that!
It's amazing how much neat stuff we miss in our very own cities. Nice to play tourist sometimes. I love the red trash container - so shiny.
What fantastic RT photos! The red is vivid and really gets our attention. How beautiful!
Owh I love to see the color of the bus! Bright red. So attractive. Thanks for sharing!
Holy Crap! that's a lot of people to cram into that size of an area!
Love the trash can picture. It's such a vibrant red.
If you'd like to stop by my blog I'm at Cake Crumbs.
That was the fanciest garbage can I've ever seen in my life. :) That must have been a very interesting place to visit. All the history.
Great place and shots.
I miss being here.
Regards.
Regina
Now I'm truly curious. Where do those 9,000 + people live?
Your photos so make me what to hop on a plane and fly to NYC. So much to see.
When I lived in Manhattan for Grad school I never visited Roosevelt Is. I also have never been to the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty. Nice shots!
i wonder what its like to live on an 800ft wide island!
great photos!
Hi Mary, your choices for ruby Tuesday are perfect!!!mine is ready.
Mary, that is the prettiest thrash can I've ever seen.
The bus is lovely too -they like their red, don't they?
I love your photos... The bus is really a great shade of red.
That is SO cool! So different from my hill-town environs, exotic yet oddly familiar.
Your Blackwell Island Light evokes my St. Luke's Stone Church in its simplicity and integrity!
That trash can is so cool! Does one have to pay when boarding the island bus?
My Blog Connections is joining for the first time!! would surely love this meme! great pix!
Boy you couldn't miss that bus if you tried it is Bright! And of course you found a lighthouse, very interesting looking Mary did you get to go inside? Have a great day!
