Walden Pond (2007)
Walden Pond is a 102-foot (31 m) deep pond. It is 61 acres (250,000 m2) in area and 1.7 miles (2.7 km) around, located in Concord, Massachusetts, in the United States. A famous example of a kettle hole, it was formed by retreating glaciers 10,000 - 12,000 years ago.
The writer, transcendentalist, and philosopher Henry David Thoreau lived on the shores of the pond for two years starting in the summer of 1845."Life at Walden was not without its incidences. Thoreau occasionally harbored fugitive slaves, and once held a meeting for the Concord Women’s Anti-slavery Society, as he indirectly mentions in Walden having once housed twenty-five to thirty people under his roof." - Michael J. Beautiful shot
For some reason, as a non-American I've actually heard of Waldon Pond. I think it must have been in my High School Days. Still, it was there a long time before that!
Teach Mary, could you stop by my entry for skywatch today and see if you can tell me what the building is on my picture? I took it somewhere in Central Park west.
Thanks.
Oh this is Walden Pond. Is it open for visitors?
A glacier lake or pond seems to have the crystal clear water, the water being sky blue due to the sky above. This looks peaceful, and nicely so, just mere miles from the hub on Boston harbor. A still lake under a beautiful sky is a natural portrait...
I've heard of that pond - never thought I'd see it. Thanks for sharing.
Looks very peaceful!
It is a beautiful pond and those blue skies above it match it well. The beauty is never ending! Thanks for playing along, Mary. Have a great weekend.
