Ruby Tuesday

For this Ruby Tuesday I have RED and near RED to show you. Don't miss my suggestion for next week's Ruby Tuesday below

Photobucket

A painting that has a soft, lovely effect. Don't you agree? It hangs in a Rehabilitation Center out on Long island. I took the shot when I visited my cousin who had hip surgery. She's doing very well now!

Photobucket

A RED wall along the Long Island Expressway. They build walls like this along highways and expressways to deaden the noise from the cars. It's done for the house that sit right along the highway. Now why do you think they would paint the wall RED?

Next week Ruby Tuesday is St. Patrick's Day. Would you like to post GREEN on that day? Shamrocks, clover, leprechauns, ANYTHING you like that's GREEN?

Okay, it'll be up to you, post RED or post GREEN next week! Should be fun!

Don't forget to sign Mr. Linky and leave a comment. And visit your friends who participate in this meme. :)

I don't know why they'd paint the wall red. Maybe for the same reason they hung a picture of a fire hydrant on it?

And actually, yeah... I do like the painting. Odd that red would be so soothing... I don't usually think of it that way.

I knew when I saw the place in my shot that I had to post it for R/T. You'll see why.

Leora said...

I think I handle green.

Is red supposed to be soothing? I'm glad your cousin is doing well.

The painting is so pretty, I always wanted to do something like that...I hope its ok if I dont post green next week...I love red better :D HAve a nice week!

Those types of paint choices intrigue me. Who decided that one bridge over the Connecticut should be black, another green and another bright blue? Maybe the architect or the builder?

Lovely painting Mary! I like the subtle color - soothing to look at it.
Red wall - I saw the picture of the hydrant too and I'm guessing the hydrant or valve is further down the wall.

My post this week is on my photoblog: Carletta’s Captures.

The red is just fine. The noise barriers in CT along I-91 and I-84 are a drab green.I understand the function in these things, but why not a tiny bit of style to hide their utility??

Pretty painting. Very soft looking.

Here there's a sound wall painted to look like greenery :-).

PS I've got a great green picture that's been looking for its day in the spotlight.

Hello, teach Mary,
the painting has a sepia reddish look.
Very nice indeed.
Red sound walls will be seen, even at high speed, whilst gray may just seem blur.
Red for warning and safety,- I think.
Looking forward to take a green dive in my Irish collection for next Tuesday.

Well, according to me, and with no reason at all, I prefer to watch that wall in Red than in grey like they are in France, most of the time. It's a perfect reason for me even if it's not the real reason.

I would say for headlight reflexion on night, maybe.

Mary, Great shots. I love it when thought is given to how decor affects how we feel.

They are just starting to paint the walls here. I find the colors so much nicer then the boring miles of dull concrete.

Have a great RT.

Great posting Mary. Next week I am looking forward to the GREEN posting on St. Patrick's Day. With the last name of Mulligan I should feel right at home! Have a great Ruby Tuesday.

I'll think it's for safety reasons they've painted the wall red for high speed cars.
Happy Ruby Tuesday Mary :)

The Long Island Distressway, World's Longest Parking Lot.... you make me homesick, Mary. And then I realize that it's 39 degrees there, 69 degrees here - and I get over it :p

that's a cool red wall. the wall was painted red to probably get the drivers' attention---HERE'S A WALL, DON'T DRIVE THROUGH IT!:D

I do love the first painting ... it's beautiful!
Hugs and blessings,

I have no idea about the red wall. Here, they keep 'em neutral. Green sounds like fun.

The colors in the painting are very calming. Red or Green (maybe both) next week - great idea!

oh too many choices. green red, red green...what to do what to do?

♥ Kathy said...

Maybe we could do a double shot...one green and one red :) that'd be cool

Dianne said...

the painting is lovely, I like subdued red

and we have those walls here off of Route 35 but they're tan.

I think green is a fun idea! It will sure confuse a lot of my readers. LOL!!

oh i am thinking of creating an artwork with flowers!:) happy RT guys!

It seems a shame to build a nice and costly fence like that for just one house.

The red has red lead in it which helpens dampen the sound waves.
..
BTW, the real answer is the same reason as for why they DO NOT paint many airplanes red. ♥

marcia@joyismygoal said...

I'd like to hang that picture in my house:)

I don't also know why they painted the wall RED. Maybe to lessen the glare from the sun 'coz it's a matte finish paint..hehe.

Lovely photo of the flowers Mary. forgive if I missed it..but is it a wall hanging or picture?

It's really lovely.

Also I think green would be fun!!

And please forgive me for being late. I have been very sick all afternoon.

I think I have a little tummy flu.

But, I am feeling a little better now.

Happy RT everyone:-)

A red wall is more visible and red means Danger.

I want to go Green next week!

We have those walls too, but not in red they are always green ! I hope the red color is not to attract bulls !

Gie's Tidbits said...

nice painting...red always gets attention, so that must be it for the wall.

MaR said...

I have a painting with much red in my RT waiting list :)
Lovely painting and I like that red wall!!!
Didn't realize St Patrick's is almost here!
Happy RT :)

I love the painting. Do you know who painted it?

Wow, you're really shaking things up next week. Green? Emerald Tuesday....

Gemma Wiseman said...

This is quite unusual to find a soothing red, especially in a painting. Perhaps the soft texturing helps!

Great solid wall on that freeway! I wonder if it really does work well!

EG CameraGirl said...

I have NO idea why anyone would build a red wall. I like red but a wall is a LOT of red ;-)

Glad your cousin's health is improving!

I have enjoyed all of the "Red" posts here. The study of how color affects our emotions is very interesting indeed...I wear red when I am need of an emotional pick-me-up...

Patti said...

I like the painting of those lovely flowers. I wish I knew what they were. Jonquils come to mind...but I dunno!

The wall is red because they want to keep drivers alert??

glad your cousin is doing well after her surgery

I like your idea of green; there's lots of that color around here right now...the red wall - maybe that's the only color the contractor had at the time? Love your pics and thanks for hosting!

The red wall looks like it is brick, to my eye. Maybe they painted it red to make it look like bricks?

RA said...

Beautiful painting. It has indeed a relaxing effect on me. May be it's the flowers? Best wishes and happy Ruby Tuesday to all :)!

Sherrie said...

Hi Mary,
Love your painting! It's very pretty. Maybe they paint the walls red to make sure everyone sees them. Mine is posted. Have a great day!!

Melli said...

I do love that painting! Very soft and pretty.

I think the wall MIGHT be red just to make it stand out more and keep people from running into it? Or it MIGHT have been painted RED to cover over a bunch of graffiti people had put there? (easier and cheaper than sandblasting?) OR it might just be more pleasing to the eye than the dull drab GRAY walls that line our Beltway down here! I'm sure you'll let us know if there is a REAL reason they did it though!

Anonymous said...

Lovely photo of the painting!

I've seen this wall...good shot!

Anonymous said...

happy RT again! my second time here:)

Amber Star said...

I thought the wall was brick...maybe that is why they paint it red. I dunno.

I like the painting. Glad your family member is doing better.

I'd love to post something green next week. This is my favorite time of year and everything is coming out so beautifully green.

btw-thank you so much for the fab bookmarks. You are very sweet to have done that.

Red walls along the highway....ah yes...

Hey Harriet said...

I love both your reds! As for why they paint the sound wall red I have no idea, but I've read a few good answers in the comments. Mixing things up with green next week sounds fun :)

I've been remiss in my Ruby Tuesday posts, but I've been enjoying yours. Just love the painting this week!

Thanks for your advice concerning glare.

I think the red wall is to provide some cheeriness to the tiresome commute. I like your eye! And the red painting is both soothing and energizing at the same time, which is just what the doctor ordered.

Jackie said...

Mary I just realized that this is one of your paintings...wow it's lovely!!

You are so very talented! Just being a teacher is an incredible accomplishment within itself. I know my oldest is an asst. professor and it's not an easy job.

Okay onward to my my wonderful RT travels!!:-)
