Thursday Thirteen

THIRTEEN ODDITIES

Add a little life to your bathroom with this live aquarium. The fully functioning tank fits American Standard bowls. Custom bowl installation is available. It was designed by Oliver Beckert and it features a 3/8" acrylic tank, 1.6 gpf., and 22" x 14" x 9" deep.

Huh?

The atmospheric phenomenon known as a circumhorizon(tal) arc, or "Fire rainbow", appears when the sun is high in the sky (i.e., higher than 58° above the horizon), and its light passes through diaphanous, high-altitude cirrus clouds made up of hexagonal plate crystals. Sunlight entering the crystals' vertical side faces and leaving through their bottom faces is refracted (as through a prism) and separated into an array of visible colors.

Braun Silk-Epil Epilators are best known as razors which give women silky smooth legs for up to four weeks. To inform the public of the product without using traditional advertising, helium balloons were tied to a model's skirt, leaving only her legs exposed as she walked around the mall. The Braun branding was written on the balloons. While, as you can see in the picture, it is a little creepy looking, it definitely appeared to be entertaining and, apparently, effective. Traffic to the store increased around 25%.

This Hubble image, showing star forming pillars in the Eagle Nebula, is one of the most popular poster images of outer space, and often appears in science-fiction movies.

Britney Spears perfumes come in three different flavors; Curious (released in 2004), Fantasy (released in 2005) and In Control (released in 2007). Britney Spears perfumes are found in department stores and online specialty perfume stores and online department stores. You usually can find the best deals on the web – but the drawback is you can’t try before you buy. Be sure to check the return policies.

The Palm Islands in Dubai are the three largest artificial islands in the world.

In 1957, world-famous food critic Egon Ronay wrote and published the first edition of the Egon Ronay Guide to British Eateries. Because his endorsement could make or break a restaurant, Ronay insured his taste buds for $400,000.

By early 2009, travelers will have the opportunity to stay at the grandiose Poseidon Undersea Resort in Fiji. Nestled forty feet below the surface of the clear blue Fijian Lagoon, the underwater suites will be accessible by elevator. 70 percent of each suite is enveloped in Acrylic walls that allow for spectacular views of the ocean. Guests are invited to interact with the surroundings. At the push of a button the fish are fed, and a flip of a switch turns on the sparkling underwater lights.

Goats on trees are found mostly only in Morocco. The goats climb them because they like to eat the fruit of the argan tree, which is similar to an olive. Farmers actually follow the herds of goats as they move from tree to tree. Not because it is so strange to see goats in trees and the farmers like to point and stare, but because the fruit of the tree has a nut inside, which the goats can't digest, so they spit it up or excrete it which the farmers collect.

Tillamook Cheddar is a Jack Russell Terrier from Brooklyn, New York. Widely regarded as the world's preeminent canine artist, she has already had seventeen solo exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. Tillie is eight years old.

Love the thoughts and humour here, although I was worried by this at the beginning:

'fully functioning tank fits American Standard bowls'

Could have sworn it said 'bowels' at first!

This is the most interesting T13 ever. Loved it. Insuring your tongue. I am in the wrong business.

If 70% of your walls are acrylic, then is there a private dressing room - and um, I really don't think I want Nemo and friends watching me sleep!

Cool idea for your T-13 today. These are all great! I shared that atmospheric phenomenon at Sacred Ruminations a while back myself after receiving an email about it. Well done today (as always).
Hugs and blessings,

wow - that's really great fun! Thank you so very much for sharing. You know I love fish. I just hate when they die (like my bees). I want to get an aquarium but my dh can't deal with my upset over their death. So we're at an impasse. Maybe the toilet idea would work?

Happy TT!

Where do you find this stuff?!! Goats in trees. I cracked up! I think I need the fish tank to keep my kidlets occupied during the day.

Fun stuff, Mary! Tillamook Cheddar's Blue Period is really interesting.

The fish "tank" is neat. Wonder how the fish respond to the flushes!

I love the epi ad. Who thinks up this stuff?

I love the Ernst & Young sculpture! And the artist dog. Woo!

Wow! Those are some amazing facts! I can't imagine insuring my taste buds for $400,000!
