Gizo Town, Ghizo Islands, Solomon Islands
Here's what Gizo Town looked like after a massive earthquake of 8.0 magnitude struck the Solomons on April 2, 2007, just south of Gizo, 350km NW of Honiara. The tsunami set off by the quake caused widespread damage in the area and travellers should avoid the region while relief and recovery operations take place and monitor the news for any updates.Despite no repetition of recent civil disturbances, or of violent home invasions targeting expatriates that occurred in Honiara in early October 2006, the security situation in and around the capital remains uncertain and could deteriorate rapidly. Ongoing political tensions remain high. Check out Safe Travel for current warnings.
If you look closely at the picture above notice the laundry hanging out to dry at the far right middle of the picture.
