Hey! Welcome to the Work of the Poet

Hey there! This blog is based on a quote by Salman Rushdie:

"A poet's work is to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world, and stop it going to sleep."

So it's not going to have anything to do with actual poetry. Although I am a poet, have taught it on the college level, and even have a book published. This blog will be about everything and anything: politics, religion, philosophy, social relationships, diversity, education, etc. It definitely take sides, and argue points of view... Whether I can shape the world, I doubt it... but we all can do something. Dontcha think?

I hope you'll enjoy my blog, read it, comment on it, and come back often. maryt

Hey Teach...I just thought it would be neat to read your very first post!
And it has not disappointed me!
Naw...you haven't shaped the world yet, [although I don't doubt in the least that you have shaped a few young lives as a teacher.]...THAT needs a lot of work but you sure have brought a lot of joy to so many bloggers with your Ruby Tuesdays!
Keep on keeping on, eh?...Love Terry
