Glenn Close - Take This Tune

This week on Take This Tune, Jamie presents Glenn Close singing "As If We Never Said Goodbye" from Sunset Boulevard.

Here's a very young Glenn Close singing
"Send in the Clowns" from Sondheim's A Little Night Music:

Send In the Clowns

Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

To be honest, I think Close's voice is better and stronger in the Sunset Boulevard song. Why don't you go over to Jamie's Take This Tune and see for yourself?

Mary, I love this song, and I like the confidence Glenn Close has when she sings it.
I learned this and played it last year for my French Horn Grade 5 exam! I still enjoy playing it.

I'm afraid I've taken liberties and my lyrics don't quite work but here they are anyway!

Thank you for being a Take This Tune regular. Most people don't know that Close was nominated for a Tony for her supporting role in the Musical "Barnum". I tell that story in my post for this week's song at Durward Discussion.
