Ruby Tuesday

Bellamocha has a photo of the original Ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz at her web site. Go take a look!

On the weekend I stuck my head out my side door and it was snowing lightly. To my left is a bush, one of two I've never known the name of. But I noticed this little RED winter berry (past it's prime) among the green leaves and the snow so I took the shot. I've always noticed that this bush gets red berries along about Fall and the other bush, which is the exact same species never does. I know enough that that means the bush with the berries is a female and the other bush is a male. That in order to have berries there has to be two bushes... I don't think the bushes are holly bushes, the leaves aren't holly leaves but they must be related somehow. If anyone knows anything about my two bushes I'd sure appreciate an answer. :)

Here's a little collection of holly berries, leaves and pinecones in a tree-shaped container. I bought it at holiday time.

Next week I'd like to try some MACRO shots if everyone is willing. Let me know in the comments, okay?

Don't forget to sign Mr. Linky!

The berries looks very nicely package,Mary! I'd love to try the Macro next week too;-)

Have a great week ahead!

No clue what variety of bush that is, but it's eye catching for sure.

As you know, I'm already scheduled for next week's post... and all the rest through the first of April, but I'll have to look around and see if I can scrape up a red coated macro for next week. Schedules aren't set in stone after all.

I did sort of a macro this week, though it wasn't too close. Just closer and then a little further back then a little further than that.

I love seeing berries in the winter. The top photo with one berry is so pretty!

Dear teach Mary,
I thought today was to be macroday, so I had hubby teach me in the kitchen!
The heart of the house where everything starts and ends..
I noticed you had Macro'ed your first pic of the mystery bush as well.
As lousy as I am in gardening theory, I cannot even get berries om my Holly= Christ-thorn tree. It's tall and full of small, pink flowers, but no fruits. I have an apple tree near by. Doesn't help.
I'll look out for good answers tonight.

Nice berry shots, Mary. I like the top one the best.
I don't have a macro photo with red in it that I could share, but I am playing.
;-)

Happy Ruby Tuesday to you.

It turns out I'm one week early with my macro shots! Now that I remembered, I got it wrong anyway!! Eww!
I love the tree shaped container, it must be great to use as a Christmas decoration! It turns out I have posted Holly berries as well!! It will be up in half an hour!

EG CameraGirl said...

The bush is a yew. ;-) You took a very nice shot of it, good enough for me to tell what it is.

The tree-shaped container is very pretty filled with leaves, pine cones and berries. I like that sort of thing!

Pretty berries, Mary!

I love Macro. In fact, I would have done that this week, but my husband ate my subjects. (They were fresh raspberries.)

Cool berry pleasure. Oops, I thought macro was this week, well next week is great too. :o) LOL, After reading comments I don't feel as bad as I thought I did.

I love the angle of the second photo!! It makes an already interesting shape even more so.

YAY for macros!!! Wooohoooooo!!!! ;P

Macro it is. Can't wait!'I love red berries especially in the winter. We have Holly and you do need male and female to get berries. The Waxwings eat them, but never stick on long enough for me to get any pictures.
Gary would like to do his antique toys for RT sometime.

I don't know what the plant is. Great shot though!

I'm definitely up for a ruby macro for next week. Just hope I remember!

I caught a baby trailer, sans baby at the park.

Juniper?

Well, the grape vine told me you were doing Macro Ruby. I posted, but I'm not officially signing the linky because I don't have time to hit the visiting trail.

Your berries look very festive. I bet they smell like Christmas.

Askew To You said...

I like the berries. It's fun to find signs of life in a Winter garden.

I don't know what a macro shot is, so I'm going to look it up.

Your header looks gorgeous and sort of mysterious.

Gattina said...

You know this is really strange ! I posted yesterday for Macro Monday a red berry frozen in an icicle hanging on our green bushes ! Maybe it's the same berry, lol !

Hi Teach...This has been a fun one again this week.
Next week on Ruby Tuesday, it is the anniversary of my little brother, David's going to heaven. I hope you don't mind if I do a memorial of him on that day...
Bernie's birthday is in May too Teach..May 25th..What is the day for you?
Have a great week.. Love Terry

What a pretty collection of berries.

I nearly didn't participate this week, my mind has been too weighed down to focus on photography today, but at the last minute I pulled together a post combining both. It's a bit heavier than my usual RT fare, but that's what there was this week.

Very pretty!

Good morning Mary, and Ruby Tuesdayers. :)

I have a red shirt posted for my Ruby Tuesday this week.

Very nice photo today, Mary! :)

I love red berries on bushes especially in winter. Your RT shots are perfect. I especially like the first one and how there is a little bit of light shining on the snow. Nice. I'll give macro a try next week. Happy RT.

Hmmm ... I shared a sign again ... totally forgetting that's what I did LAST week. I need coffee. Maybe I'll check my archives for a macro shot and exchange the pictures after I've had some breakfast and can THINK coherently. Sigh ...
Hugs and blessings,

Okay ... I've amended my Ruby Tuesday post to be 'on topic' and I want to add that Bella Mocha's photo of the original red slippers is very 'kewl' ... as are your berries. Once I get a telephoto lens for my new Nikon D60, I'll have better macro shots to share ;--)
Hugs and blessings,

The first time I'm seeing real holly berries, not artificial ones. :)

I did a bit of a close-up this week. Does it count as a macro? Macro always sounds so official to me lol
and then I don't think I get one to come out with my equipment

love holly berry - the sweet little pop of red in the middle of winter

Hi Mary,
Sorry can't help with your bush name. My Ruby Tuesday is posted. Doing a Macro would be fine with me for next week. Have a great week!

I thought with the inauguration next Tuesday, you'd have a red/white/blue theme. I jumped that gun and have a pic of me at the national mall for today's RT.

Your berries look rather pretty. I would like to look outside and see some color.

oooh! we have the exact same subject this week mary!:) happy RT to all!

Happy Tuesday!

"Yew" bushes, indeed.

I'm not sure if only the females get the red berries. I do know, however, that as a male, my berries turn blue in extremely cold weather... :)

The Steve said...

Wow, it makes sense, but I never knew a bush had a plant. I assumed a blackberry bush could produce blackberries on its own.

Julie said...

I have no clue what other specimens need male and female. Crazy!

A Living Nadneyda said...

Lovely, that one bit of red...

Nearly all my stuff is macro these days... love it!

(And my apologies for linking twice... my previous link went up automatically before I had time to notice).
