Ruby (Red) Tuesday

Last weekend we went to California Pizza Kitchen a very nice restaurant in a new Mall in Glendale, N.Y. As we were waiting for our appetizers and shooting the breeze I noticed that the paintings on the wall were all very RED. I got up from the table and moved up close to the REDDEST one: APPLES.

You can see the APPLES directly below:

What's so remarkable is that the APPLES are painted on PIZZA BOXES!
Four of them mounted within the frame.

And so are the PEARS

And so is the ONION!

Do you agree that it's a very clever idea? And a great subject for a Ruby Tuesday post. Unfortunately they were NOT signed. I think they should have been.

~Important Notice~

I'd really appreciate it if you would sign Mr. Linky AND make a comment. This makes it a little easier for me to visit everyone. If you do one and not the other then I have to check back and forth to see if I've visited you already. Thanks very much.

I love the chop chop salad at California Pizza Kitchen. This is fun art for sure...
Enjoy your week Maryt. Have I asked you this before..Is your name Maryt or Mary?

I did already say I love your new header, right? Wow. Great pots against a dark ruby back.

Restaurant art can be a lot of fun. These apples (and pears and onions) are a great find.

Thanks again for Ruby Tuesday.

Red apples, pears and onions are the sweetest of each genus. Therefore, perfect for Ruby Tuesday (and cooking).

YAY! I absolutely LOVE these box-art - I've never seen anything similar before... and it fits perfectly to a pizza restaurant. B.t.w. "California Pizza Kitchen sounds interesting. I've never been there while I was in the U.S.

Your new header is "Just WOW". You should frame this one. :-)

Thanks for hosting Ruby Tuesday - my entry is posted on the photoblog. Hope you don't mind it comes with a blue part, too... but it's one of my favorite photos and I couldn't wait to share...

Dear Teach,
I like Americans, especially when they are both clever and weird at the same time.
The art was beautiful, and all showing very healthy food.
One could almost believe that pizza was likewise sound.

Very cool...

I have only been in one of those once. I don't think there are any in Memphis.

There's also a California Pizza Kitchen here, but their foods are so expensive, I can only dream of eating there! But I am impressed with the boxes!

Felisol said...

Dear Teach,
I'm in trouble. Cannot find any way to upload the ruby or the Ruby Tuesday icon.
I've tried to copy and paste, to drag/drop and upload, but in vain.
Please, help, teach!

These are beautiful arts and perfect for Ruby Tuesday.
I have photographed a painting in a restaurant too recently and I believed it was somewhat red. Great shots btw with all the angles.

I do think it's a clever idea. I like the bold look of the art. How was your pizza?

I made some pizza in my California kitchen just this evening. ;D

Happy Ruby Tuesday!

It's a real pity that these paintings haven't been signed ! They are very nice ! My teacher always insisted on this to sign our paintings. Appels are a wonderful object because you learn to paint volumes !
I discovered your "Ruby" meme just now and it is the first time that I participate !

Pizza boxes as canvas! Who would have thunk it!? It looks like the artist had some talent, as well. I agree, they should have been signed!

Oh! We have California Pizza Kitchens here in Hawaii. Are you recommending the food as well as the art?

Barb said...

I was sure you'd be using the new header for RT, Mary! I especially love this one!

Love the Pizza Box Art! It would look great in my kitchen!

I don't have a Ruby Red picture but I sure do like yours. Love that they are painted on pizza boxes!

Sorry Mary, I linked in twice, but it still remembered my Weekly Winners link from last Sunday! Could you please remove number 30 for me please?
I'm so sorry!
I have to go back and look at your post first before I can comment on your pictures! I'll be back!
Oh, my Ruby Tuesday is finally up now, it was a lot of hard work, but I did the meme you tagged me with and the Gold card, so ... See you!

Jientje said...

Those are great, indeed, they should have been signed, but so do your pictures I think! It's a very nice series again this week!
I did some digging in my archives, but only because there is a special story attached to it!

Probably in the minority I have never been to a California Pizza Kitchen. They have great boxes and it looks like that type of art would work for flowers, also.

I have a Red Dahlia for this week.

The apple and onion paintings are very beautiful; its almost seems too bad that the media used (pizza boxes) may not be substantial enough to preserve then through the years. A great choice for Ruby Tuesday!

Melli said...

Had I been the artist I certainly would have signed those boxes!!! They're fabulous!

These boxes are so creative. I love the artwork on them. Seems a shame to throw them out!

I've never been to a California Pizza Kitchen.

Happy Ruby Tuesday ~ and thanks again for hosting, Mary.

Those Pizza boxes are great! You very often find that restaurant art (and the like) are painted by local art students. Costs less for the company and it's a bit of pocket money for the students. That's often the cse in the UK.

Dianne said...

that IS a very clever idea and they did a great job at it too!

love the photos Mary

Never heard of the restaurant chain, but I agree, the artist should have signed the pizza boxes!

That is so cool! :) Art on a box - I can feel the ideas and inspiration run through my head! Thanks for sharing that one! :)
Mine's up too. A very ruby parade in Xian - altough not a chinese one as one would think.. this one came all the way from Brooklyn..

Nicely done Mary! I was a bit confused re: the dates, I thought perhaps this was last weeks RT as it's below the one for yesterday, Monday the 4th. I checked a couple of the participants out though and I'm on the right date!

Happy Ruby Tuesday

What a great idea and a very 'green' way to recycle old pizza boxes. Pity the artist didn't sign them. I've just joined Ruby Tuesday as I love the idea, please drop by some time.

Pizza boxes? That sure is creative. I have a little italian scene pic at home that you can split up four ways. I have to check what mine is painted on :o)
