It is supposed to truly save on utilities as the grass or thatched roof maintains a much more even temperature. Think of it as a Prius for your roof. :-)
Those green roofs add a lot to the beauty of a neighborhood. You found some special ones. I do remember them from Ireland, at Adare. Thank you for visiting on RT, my answer post finally got up. The instrument is a shekere made from a large gourd. I also found a YouTube to show how to play it for display on the answer post. .. ..

The grassy roofs are most attractive and very conservationally useful I'm sure. But I fear they'd soon look like thatched roofs in our climate!
That's why it's lovely to be able to bring you a 'green' shot of my area.
