Summer Stock Sunday

Robin of Around the Island hosts the Summer Stock Sunday meme and today I'm showing you the Yo-Yo Championships 2009 held down in South Street Seaport in New York City.

You'd be shocked if you saw the kinds of yo-yos they use today. They are made of plastic or aluminum and and don't look like the classic yo-yos of the past.

The ones we bought for our nephews are aluminum, gold-colored, and out brand-new in this last week at a cost $75.00 ea.

It was very hot sitting in the audience but I bought us a couple of hats and slathered ourselves with 50 spf suntan lotion.

A Yo-yo competition accompanied by great photos -- That would be an awesome way to spend a day. I use to have a yo-yo as a child and remember how much fun it was. Except for the fact that the string always got tied up in knots, I did pretty good. Hehehe

I had no idea yo-yos cost so much!

Thanks for sending your address. I'll be sending you a postcard soon.

Hugsssss, Susan

Speaking of "Summer Stock" you should enjoy this diary from the "Homecoming" in Scotland for the 250th anniversary of Bob Burns birth. Don't miss the link about halfway down of the Red Hot Chili Peppers adding new meaning to the highland fling.

I didn't know it was still that popular an activity. I remember the ads on TV when I was a kid. I never did get the swing of it!

What great fun to watch! I can tell you that $75.00 for a yo-yo would be much to dear for me!

$75? Seriously? This event looks like so much fun. Thanks for sharing AND, I'm very glad to have found you again - I went away right after we met, and I've had it in the back of my mind to find the Ruby Tuesday poet/writer/teacher. Yea!

Wow, you just took me back a few decades. I remember all my yoyos... They were all Duncans, of course (wink). I never mastered the trip around the world thing... Although I could "walk the dog"

What a fun thing to do. It's nice that there was sun and not rain for the event.

Did you say $75 for a yo-yo?

Yikes!

I can remember having a drawer full of them and they all cost about a buck each. I think the ones I had were all plastic, but there might have been a wooden one.

I was never very good with them though. I never had the knack.
