Ruby Tuesday

Welcome again to Ruby Tuesday! Take a look at some of the thumbnails I collected over the last week of wonderful RT posts.

Left to right: Jan; Junie's Place; Leora; Nonizamboni; Vicki~Fl

I was lucky to take a trip down under the George Washington Bridge this weekend to see the little RED lighthouse:

The Little Red Lighthouse (officially known as the Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse) is a small lighthouse located on the Hudson River in New York City. It was made famous by the 1942 children's book The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge by Hildegarde Swift and Lynd Ward.

The Little Red Lighthouse stands on a small point called Jeffrey’s Hook at the base of the eastern pier of the George Washington Bridge, which connects the Washington Heights neighborhood in Manhattan to Fort Lee, New Jersey. The shoreline north and south of the lighthouse makes up Fort Washington Park. Access to the lighthouse is either via a steep footpath leading down from the north side of the bridge or, somewhat more easily, via the riverside promenade leading south to Riverside Park and Riverbank State Park.

~If any of you get back to sign in to Mr. Linky that would be find but don't worry if you don't.~

Ooh, I love the shot of the lighthouse with the lower span of the bridge looming overhead!

Here's my post, like yesterday's monochrome shot it's equal part photography and social commentary. Too many thoughts rattling around inside my brain to keep bottled up.

Dear teach Mary,
what a wonderful red lighthouse, so well kept, so special in all the little details.
It must be a joy to both young and old.
I'm missing Mr. Linkey, but anyone wanting to visit; just click on my name and You'll be there.

I've always wanted to see a lighthouse up close. Unfortunately, we don't have much of that from where I come from.

Love the photos!

This is so cute! Unusual to say "cute" for a lighthouse, but this one is! Love the range of photos you took so that we can get a "feel" for the environment.

There's another little lighthouse like that at the base of the Tappan Zee (sp?) bridge, that I caught on the way form Boston to Baltimore once upon a time. I think my favorite is the same one Robin's talking about -- the low angle shot looking up at the lighthouse with the underside of the span over it. Really like the vibrant rwed in that one. Adn the angle is perfect.

Since You didn't even mention Mr. Linky this week, I'm guessing you're having the same problems with him that everyone else is so here's my offering:
Ruby Tuesday #48: "Marrakesh Express"

And to answer the question that I just know will be on everyone's lips, no, I still haven't made it there.

Hi Mary,
Love this RED lighthouse. I also remember seeing it on a post by G6, as Leora said. I like the perspective you used to get the photo.

I never heard of the children's book. My bad.

I just love the G.W. Bridge. The style does not belie the brute strength of this 1931 edifice. So strong they added a lower level in 1962, so it is functional and stylish as well!
