The heck with Punxsutawney Phil!
Mayor Bloomberg doesn't look so happy having to bother with Staten Island Chuck who is New York's predictor of whether there will be more Winter...
Staten Island Chuck is a groundhog who resides in the Staten Island Zoo in Staten Island, New York in the United States. He is noted as the official groundhog meteorologist of New York City who predicts the duration of winter each February 2 on Groundhog Day. He makes the prediction based on whether or not he sees his shadow at 7:30 A.M. on Groundhog Day. The ceremony at the zoo is often attended and officiated by the Mayor of New York City.
The Staten Island Zoo claims that Chuck has correctly predicted the duration of winter 80% of the time since the 1980s (in natural circumstances a groundhog could never live more than 10 years or so).
On Saturday, February 2, 2008, Staten Island Chuck predicted an early spring.[1]
He did not see his shadow in 2009, either, so once again Chuck is predicting that spring will be early this year, in contrast to Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of six more weeks of winter.

Hello teach Mary,
How wonderful that people in this messy world cares.
About animals, about spring, about each other.
I think there might be hope for mankind despite materialism, pollution and manmade economic crises.
Maybe just then our minds are turned towards the real values in life.
Just now the third bouquet of Forsythia from my garden is blooming on my kitchen table.
I brought the first Forsythia branches indoors January first, and have since then been watching spring take place in the kitchen.
Ode to joy and life!

The first time I've heard about this, it was during the eponymous movie !
Does the prediction works for us, French people ? ; )
6 weeks of winter suits me very well. Otherwise, I 'll write a complain letter to the City Hall !

I want to know who has to be the poor schmuck to have to wake up Chuck!
Did you see where Chuck took a chunk out of hizzoner's finger?
I'm more likely to listen to Punxsutawney Phil, but I do like Chuck's attitude.
I believe in you Chuck!!! I had a feeling we'd have an early Spring. I hope we are both right!
Around here, we definitely want six more weeks of winter. At LEAST.
Now that's one smart furry guy!!! You go Chuckie. :<)
