I went walking in the Bronx near Montefiore Hospital and found the Bronx Historical Society headquartered in this house, The Valentine-Varian House built in 1758 when carriages traveled the nearby Boston Post Road and the Bronx was mostly farmland.
The Union soldier stands sentry next to the House and is called The Bronx River Soldier sculpted of granite by John Grignola in ca. 1909.

Bronx mostly farmland? I guess this whole country was once a bunch of woods. Boston Post Road and your pics remind me of Lexington and Concord, which I used to enjoy visiting when I lived in the Boston area (almost 30 years of my life).

I love a stone structure. Don't know why, just like the look of 'em. They are horrible to try and heat in the winter. Glad you enjoyed your trip to da Bronx ;) and shared it with the rest of us.
