Camera Critters #9

This is a bob cat that I caught through the fencing at the zoo.
May 2008

The Bobcat (Lynx rufus) is a North American mammal of the cat family, Felidae. With twelve recognized subspecies, it ranges from southern Canada to northern Mexico, including most of the continental United States. The Bobcat is an adaptable predator that inhabits wooded areas, as well as semi-desert, urban edge, and swampland environments. It persists in much of its original range and populations are healthy.

With a gray to brown coat, whiskered face, and black-tufted ears, the Bobcat resembles the other species of the mid-sized Lynx genus.

The bobcat is featured in American Indian folklore.

Is that his paw over the head?
That's a B I G foot! Beautiful animal, another one I wouldn't want to meet alone in the woods.

Is it a half-grown kitten? It seems awfully light-colored for a full-grown bobcat.
Great, picture, though!
Thanks for having Captured By Gravity in your Entrecard widget today!
cheers,
mo

great photo, but sad that the poor thing having to live behind those bars makes me sad.
Have you ever really looked at the animals behind those cages? No purpose in there life. Reminds me of what life would be like in prison.
But i know some could never survive the wild.

Boy is that beautiful! Thanks for showing me what I'm looking for! We have a bobcat out here... it has been stalking the deer. I've seen its tracks (following the deer tracks), and we have heard it at night... but I have yet to see it - I swear that eventually - someday - I will see it ;-)
