Thursday Thirteen

13 Reasons to Join the Circus

1. Elephants are good listeners.

2.You can teach monkeys to cook your meals.

3. Clown make-up is cheaper than regular make-up.

4. They don't test greasepaint on poor little rats and mice.

5. Acrobatics tone your muscles and strengthen your toes.

6. You don't need high SATs to go to Circus school.

7. Tigers develop deep relationships.

8. You can get out of town fast but still have a place to sleep.

9. You hardly ever have to dress for dinner.

10. There are a lot of easy jobs like poop cleaner or fire-eater.

11. You'll live in a trailer and never have to vacuum.

12. You'll get to visit new crumby backwater towns all the time.

13. A genetic predisposition like a excessive body hair is a plus.

What a fun TT! I can just see the glimmer of laughter in your eyes. Ah the circus. Do you think I could really run away there??

Happy TT!

I loved finding your blog for I, too, love poetry. I have taught English, and now I am a college dean. We have lots in common. I'll be back! (I've double-checked my spelling!)

I'm not sure I want the monkeys in my house to fix my meals...

I think this is the career path for me, Mary. I'd be happy to hang with a thoughtful elephant. Any day. God bless!

Scary; that woman has hair like my cousin's.

You've got good points there. I might have to up and join the circus the next time I need a change.

I already have a monkey cooking for me Mary :D

Have you read the book, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen?
The linked reviewer didn't like it, but those overly descriptive parts were fine for me. I was listening to the 'book on tape (CD)" in the car while driving.

I liked that book very much. It appealed to me because circus life intrigues me and because I too am elderly retired, and soon will be where the main character is in life. And for other reasons, including the writing style.

Read the first review by Valerie Ryan, I agree with her.

I once had a boyfriend that got kicked out of Clown College. So much for circus school being easy. Or maybe he was just a jerk. HA!

I bet I'd look good in clown make-up too... I always wanted to be a clown but I never even learned to juggle.

Hilarious, I am so gone, thinking I'll be a clown. Lovely TT, mine is up.

You had me at #1 – I’ll be laughing at ‘elephants are good listeners’ for a while this morning. Great idea for a T-13!
Hugs and blessings,

Great list.
We all should probably spend one season with the circus.

Clowns scare me, but I'm guessing I'd fit right in at the freak show!

Makes me want to join the circus. Good post. ;)

this is funny b/c just today I noticed that in the parking lot at my work there is a "clown truck".

Weird...

freakin funny stuff here....

"tigers develop deep relationships" umm do you mean like deep in their belly after eating you?

Kimmie said...

Oh this was a fun TT! My niece performed in the Ringling Brother's Barnum & Bailey Circus for about 5 years. This was approximately 10 years ago. She was a wonderful high wire dancing performer! It is a very tough job though. She left after sustaining a back injury. She enjoyed traveling the country and has many precious memories and scrapbooks full of amazing photos from those five years.
Smiles,
Kimmie

Ok, the vacuum number has peeked my curiosity! However, I actually live under my own big top right here!
