Chris Matthews Says Cheney Pressured MSNBC Brass to Influence Content
This post originally appeared on FireDogLake
Well what do we have here:
After praising the drafters of the First Amendment for allowing him to make a living, [Chris Matthews] outlined what he said was the fundamental difference between the Bush and Clinton administrations.
The Clinton camp, he said, never put pressure on his bosses to silence him.
"Not so this crowd," he added, explaining that Bush White House officials -- especially those from Vice President Cheney's office -- called MSNBC brass to complain about the content of his show and attempted to influence its editorial content. "They will not silence me!" Matthews declared.
......
Matthews left the throng of Washington A-listers with a parting shot at Cheney: "God help us if we had Cheney during the Cuban missile crisis. We'd all be under a parking lot."

I am not entirely certain that I want to touch this one...
The reason being is because there is plenty of evidence out there that shows Chris Matthews being restricted by his network by the White House...but also by Democrats in the past.
There is also evidence that the Democrats have also done similar strong-arm tactics against the media to keep stories and such from being aired and such as well.
I am glad that Chris Matthews is saying "You can't shut me up" but why is he only waiting until now to do it?
Not a huge surprise. The more we learn about Cheney the more we realize he yearns to be an iron fisted dictator!
He's the only reason we want to keep Bush alive! Thanks for commenting Chris!
Hmmm, Anime, Matthews says that he was never restricted at MSNBC when Clinton was in office... Ha he really been restricted in the past?
Hneslty, I have no idea...
But I have to wonder, why is he only talking about it now? Why not 7 years ago? Why not even 3 or 4 years ago?
I find it difficult to believe that Capitol Hill in general has not come to this guy's superiors and said something about a particular scoop - either to downplay it a little or make a big deal...or even say nothing at all. Who knows?
Considering that Hillary came down pretty hard on GQ magazine to keep them from running an article about her husband, I have to wonder what other sort of tactics were used in the past and are in use now by both Democrats and Republicans.
