Cruise Apologizes to Shields

A Report in AOL News says that Tom Cruise has apologized to Brooks Shields for publicly criticizing her use of antidepressants for post-partum depression after the birth of her daugther. See Drudge Report (June 24, 2005)

IT'S ABOUT TIME TOM!!

Everybody knows that Tom is a Scientologist and as such eschews the use of antidepressants.

The Miami Poetry Review puts it just right: (I love the sarcasm!)

On the Channel 4 Morning Show,"he [Tom] explained the basic truth that everybody knows and accepts: that there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance and that psychiatry is a form of pseudoscience (the medical equivalent of a fake diamond). Tom Cruise made a bold [stupid, mine] move by attacking the institution of psychiatry live on television and arguing with Matt Lauer. A less courageous man might have held his tongue, thinking about the people whose lives have been saved by medication and psychiatry. But Tom Cruise was not afraid. Nor did he worry about what other people thought of him." (Miami Poetry Review)

Brooks Shields said Tom was heartfelt and really sorry when he came to her house to apologize. But, she said at the time Tom criticized her, she disdmissed what he said (see above) as a "ridiculous rant" and "a disservice to mothers everywhere."

In AOL News, however, at the very end of the article, The Cruise spokesperson says,"He [Tom] has not changed his position about antidepressants which, as evidenced by the black box label warnings issued by the FDA on these type of drugs, are unhealthy."

WHAT BLACK BOX LABELS? Antidepressants are prescription drugs. Who sees the original bottle they come in? I'm going to ask my Pharmacist and I'll let you know...the teach
