Summer Stock Sunday

Isn't this pinwheel summery? The colors are great but I have to say you need a hurricane wind to get it spinning!

Happy Summer Stock Sunday everyone!

Go visit Robin for a summer fair and fake tattoos

Shadow Shot Sunday

Tracy, doesn't this look like a perfect shadow? It isn't though. It's a profile of John and Abigail Adams in the Adams Center where we bought tickets to go on the Adams' houses tour.

Go to Hey Harriet for other participants.

The Adventures of the Ibama Twins Episode 3

The Ibama Twins flew home from Budapest yesterday to be available to attend Chelsea Clinton's Wedding in Rhinebeck this weekend. They were hurt and surprised to find out when they got home that they weren't invited!

"Oh me, Oh my!" they said. What then will we do this weekend?

"I know, let's go to Costco!" said Max.

"Fantastic idea!" said Rex!

What the heck are so many people doing in Costco on a Thursday? We'd better start making our plans for our next travel adventure...

Adventures 1 and 2

What Would You do?

Here's my answer: http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com/2010/07/what-would-you-do.html

Thank you all for commenting and taking it so seriously. I wish I had done something thoughtful, sensitive, and downright mean but I didn't have the nerve...

Yard Art on Thursdays

This little bunny sits on the step of somebody's house in Bayside, N.Y. When I saw her I took a quick picture but I want to go back and take another, a better shot!

Come on and post your yard art and sign Mr. Linky. I'll come visit you!

What Would You Do?

You are in Staples looking for photo cards and paper and some other things when all of a sudden you're hit in the upper chest with something, you don't know what, til you look down and see a Rubik's Cube size cube of Post It Notes rolling away from you. "Jeez," you say, "that hurt!"

You step out of the aisle and see a small boy running away followed by a smaller little girl. You call out loud after him and her, "Hey that hurt! Did you throw that? " You realize the cube must have been thrown from the aisle next to you, up and over the top. The children ignore you.
Some tingling pain lasts a few minutes.

You see the boy and girl later when you're looking at covers for your Blackberry phone. They are running again. You watch them go.

At the cashier's you see them again with their mother and father. It would be easy to tap either kid on the shoulder and speak to them

WHAT DO YOU DO?

  • Speak harshly to them and show them where a black and blue mark is already developing;
  • Speak to the parents and tell them what their kids (the boy who was the oldest was probably the one who threw the cube) did;
  • Tell the manager what the kids did;
  • Tell the manager and expect some sort of compensation;
  • Do nothing.

If you can think of something else you'd do, write about that...

Put you answers in a comment, okay? I will tell you what I did at the end of the day tomorrow.

Ruby Tuesday

We visited Great Small Works- Toy Theater Festival last week and loved it. Here is a RED shot I took!

I forgot to read about what this means... What do you think it means? There's a metronome, white wings, and maybe a black top hat. Can you guess?

Don't hate me if no one can figure it out. I'll have to go back to Queens Museum of Art to find out.

Photobucket

GREAT SMALL WORKS has produced eight Toy Theater Festivals, which have featured the work of hundreds of local and international theater and visual artists.

A popular and simple means of staging dramatic spectacles in the Victorian living room, Toy Theater was the rage in homes across Europe and the Americas. As children, Oscar Wilde and Jane Austen, Laurence Olivier and Orson Welles all delighted in re-enacting their favorite literary works and West End dramas by staging them in two dimensions on a miniature proscenium stage.

Combining the visual and performing arts, toy theater originated in 19th century revolutions in printing technologies. By the mid-20th century, the small box in the living room had been replaced by another; and toy theater became outmoded among all but a few practitioners. Since 1993, Great Small Works has been reviving and reinventing this form of storytelling that is fantastic in scope, easily affordable, and open to any content imaginable.

I sent out a 4x6 of the Tiger Lily I posted last week. I haven't heard from the winner yet but I'm sure she'll let me know when she receives it! :)

The Adventures of the Ibama Twins Episode 2

Max Ibama got up early and went over to the Budapest Szechenyi Baths. They are part of a tradition of baths that started during Turkish occupation of the area 600 years ago.

Max says, "Boy are these baths better than those dumpsters Mayor Bloomberg filled with water and put around New York City this summer!"

The Adventures of the Ibama Twins Episode 1

This is the story of the Ibama twins. Max and Rex are identical twins and they love to travel. Here you see them in Budapest waiting for the real estate lady to close on one of the houses that they want to rent for a time in the capital of Hungary.

The real estate woman took the picture.

They are having a problem deciding which house to live in. They both like the peach color one on the right but they feel, for some reason, they should live in the blue house on the left.

Max and Rex have asked for a delay so they can be sure they choose the right, ah, left one.
Stay tuned for the decision about the house and details about what the Ibama twins will do on their first days in the city of Budapest...

Thanks to Bud's Travels for the idea and inspiration for the Ibama twins!

Maxine on Saturday

MY DEAR FRIENDS,

I THINK WE'VE GIVEN MAXINE A REAL CHANCE TO BE SUCCESSFUL ON THIS BLOG. WE'VE POSTED HER CARTOONS AT LEAST 12 TIMES WITH LITTLE SUCCESS. :(

DON'T GET ME WRONG, I LOVE MAXINE BUT...

SO HERE'S MY LAST POST OF MAXINE ON SATURDAY:

Weekend Mailbox

Gemma, you know I can't find interesting mailboxes like you find... Americans have NO sense of humor when it comes to mailboxes, or the mail for that matter.

So what I did was make some
note paper. You mention note paper in your criteria for posting for this meme:

A few introductory comments:
1. Post a photograph of ANYTHING that relates to mailboxes.
Here are a few ideas/subjects!

mailboxes
cards
notepaper

stamps
vintage ca
rds/postcards
old letters

even VIRTUAL letters
postal vans
postmen

Here's the picture I made the paper from:
