Halloween Riddles for You!

HALLOWEEN RIDDLES*

Why didn't the skeleton cross the road?

What do skeletons say before they begin dining?
What do ghosts serve for dessert?
Why do witches fly on brooms?
When is it bad luck to meet a black cat?
What was the witch's favorite subject in school?
What do you call a friendly dead Egyptian?
What do you call a skeleton who won't work?

What do you call a fat Jack-O-Lantern?
Where do baby ghosts go during the day?
Why don't skeletons like parties?
What kind of mistakes do spooks make?
What monster flies his kite in a rain storm?
What do witches put on their hair?
What was the favorite game at the ghosts' birthday party?
How does a witch tell time?
How does a monster score a football touchdown?
What do the birds sing on Halloween?
What is Transylvania's national sport?
Who won the skeleton beauty contest?
Did you hear what happened to the boy and girl vampires?
Which story do all little witches love to hear at bedtime?
Why wasn't there any food left after the monster party?
What's the first thing ghosts do when they get in a car?
Why do mummies make good employees?
What surgery does a vampire doctor perform?
What did the ghost buy for his Haunted House?
Why are there fences around cemeteries?
Who did Frankenstein take to the prom?
What's a monster's favorite play?
What has webbed feet, feathers, fangs and g oes quack-quack?

Looking at the Sky on Friday

This was the sky at 5:00 PM last Saturday as we drove the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on our way home from my grand-nephew Birthday party. We're approaching the Kosciusko Bridge. To the left is the New York skyline and to the right the low residential and commercial buildings of Brooklyn.

The sky was so pink and blue: gorgeous pastels.

Ruby Tuesday

This is the outside mural from P.S. 193 in Whitestone, Queens (an elementary school). It depicts all the things the kids are studying.

I post it here for our Ruby Tuesday meme.

I took these shots in the late afternoon with the shadows playing at the right. But there was plenty of RED (I love the RED fence in the bottom picture) to photograph!

Happy Ruby Tuesday!

Please go visit other participants and, of course, sign Mr. Linky and leave a comment. Thanks a lot!

Take This Tune

Jamie's Take This Tune meme suggests to me the ghost story of the HEADLESS HORSEMAN in the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving.

Here's Disney's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and the song about the Headless Horseman:

Ichabod Crane is chased by the Headless Horseman, Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, whom he meets on a dark, lonely road on Halloween night.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Afternoon shadows on Union Church of Pocantico Hills

The Union Church is very simple in its design and furnishings. The absence of religious symbols that early American Protestants objected to is apparent. Over the years, additions have been in keeping with the original design of the Church. The chimes in the tower constantly remind community members of its presence. Lovely stained glass windows are enjoyed by parishioners. There is a rose window, designed by Henri Matisse in 1956, in honor of Abby Aldrich Rockefeller.

Visitors to the Union Church also enjoy nine stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall. Each window depicts a theme from the Bible. After exert craftsmen cut glass at the atelier, Chagall would actually paint on the glass in an attempt to recreate his original drawings. He added such details as facial features, a bouquet of flowers, animals, and birds to complete scenes in the windows, which were dedicated between 1964 and 1966. Three of these masterpieces honor the memory of John D. Rockefeller Jr., Michael Rockefeller, and Nelson Rockefeller.

A Trip to Sleepy Hollow

On Wednesday this week we went to Sleepy Hollow, New York. You've heard of this place before, I'm sure. It's located a little ways up into the state of New York where the leaves were almost at their peak. It's also the setting for Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

I took lots of pictures and I post them here today for you to enjoy.

This is a postcard of Ichabod Crane galloping away from the scary "Headless Horseman" which is a central scene in the Sleepy Hollow story.
